Water Filtration terms & acronyms

Granular Activated Carbon (GAC)

Granular Activated Carbon is one of the most effective filtration materials available. Thanks to its incredibly large surface area — around 500,000 square metres in a 10” Jumbo cartridge (a single spoonful equals the size of a rugby field!) — it can adsorb a wide range of harmful contaminants from water and air.
At KP Water, we use only premium-grade coconut-based GAC in our filters to remove chlorine, chlorine by-products, pesticides, and many other unwanted substances from your water.

KDF Media

KDF is a high-performance copper-zinc alloy that removes a broad spectrum of heavy metals, including lead, mercury, copper, and zinc. It also helps prevent the growth of bacteria and microorganisms within the carbon media, extending the lifespan and maintaining the performance of the GAC filter.

Sediment Filter

This is your system’s first line of defence. The sediment filter captures dirt, rust, and other physical particles before the water reaches the chemical filters. While it doesn't remove chlorine (that’s GAC’s job), it plays a vital role in protecting the rest of your filtration system.
Our multi-stage sediment filters — made in Taiwan — range from 20 to 1 micron and are designed to handle high pressure with excellent durability.

KP Water Virtual Ioniser

Customers across New Zealand — from areas with calcium-heavy water to regions affected by silica — have experienced noticeable improvements using our KP Water Virtual Ioniser. Many report softer-feeling water and a significant reduction in calcium and silica scaling on surfaces and appliances.

Our Ioniser works by applying a strong magnetic field that appears to alter the physical structure of calcium and silica particles, reducing their tendency to bond and form hard scale. It’s a simple, effective solution for a widespread issue throughout NZ.
